Asbestos abatement phased over 34 months in a partially occupied 11-story, 200-unit public housing building for Consigli.

Overview

Select Demo was contracted by Consigli Construction to perform abatement for the Medford Housing Authority's Saltonstall Building Modernization Project. The 1968 building provides affordable rental housing for seniors and individuals living with disabilities and remained partially occupied during the work.

Scope

  • Removal and disposal of asbestos-containing VAT and mastic, joint compound and gypsum wallboard, pipe insulation, flashing, and window and expansion joint caulking
  • Work on floors two through eleven, with miscellaneous scope on level one

Approach

Abatement was phased over 34 months to follow the modernization sequence, which replaced plumbing, electrical, and ventilation systems, the masonry facade and balconies, and all interior and apartment finishes. Containments were built and cleared floor by floor so that occupied units were isolated from the work.
