Bradley International Airport Vertical Circulation

Multi-phase selective demolition inside an active airport terminal, performed on third shift for Suffolk Construction.

Overview

Select Demo was contracted by Suffolk Construction to perform demolition as part of the multi-phased Vertical Circulation Improvements Project at Bradley International Airport. The project added new elevators and escalators at both ends of the terminal within a 22,000 SF expansion, improving passenger circulation and allowing the TSA checkpoint to expand.

Scope

  • Approximately 30,000 SF of selective demolition: ceilings, flooring, walls, storefront and curtain wall systems, exterior stairs, metal roofing, and an existing escalator
  • Saw-cutting of slabs on deck for new infills at the removed escalator locations on the east and west elevations

Approach

The final phase was performed within the core of the active airport on both the land and air sides. Work was completed during third shift to minimize disruption and allow the airport to remain fully operational. Select completed its scope on this complex, multi-phased project spanning 2023 through 2026.
