Yale University Vivarium Hall

Selective demolition of 48,000 SF across three floors, with lead and asbestos abatement, for Consigli.

Overview

Select Demo was contracted by Consigli Construction to perform selective interior demolition across the ground, first, and second floors of Vivarium Hall, which is being converted to vivarium laboratories for Yale research studies.

Scope

  • Removal of walls, flooring, and ceilings across 48,000 SF
  • Removal of large rooftop mechanical equipment by crane
  • Demolition of concrete slabs on grade and slabs on deck
  • Trenching and excavation for a new elevator
  • Demolition of existing fenolite fireproofing on the second floor
  • Lead abatement and asbestos abatement

Approach

Abatement containments were established floor by floor ahead of demolition. Rooftop units were rigged and lifted by crane from the street, and slab openings were saw-cut and protected with guardrail before removal.
