Overview
Select Demo was contracted by Consigli Construction to perform demolition and asbestos abatement in support of the continued expansion of MathWorks' Lakeside Campus in Natick.
Scope
- Complete demolition and removal of a five-story, 125,000 SF steel, concrete, and brick structure, including foundations
- Selective demolition of interior and exterior finishes at the adjacent LSM building
- Abatement of asbestos-containing pipe threading above the first-floor ceiling
- Abatement of asbestos-containing waterproofing behind the brick facade and dampproofing on foundation walls, identified during demolition
Approach
As demolition progressed, additional suspect materials were tested and confirmed. The brick facade and foundations required specialized handling and were bulk-loaded and disposed of as asbestos-containing material. Select adapted its means and methods to the unforeseen conditions while maintaining close coordination with Consigli and MathWorks, and completed all work in accordance with regulatory requirements within the active campus.
