Building take-down, separation from an active hospital, and removal of two concrete radiation vaults for Suffolk Construction.
Overview
Select Demo was contracted by Suffolk Construction to demolish the 11,000 SF, one-story former Davenport Cancer Center as part of a redevelopment that includes the new four-story Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion, housing an expanded cancer center along with cardiology and medical-surgical space.
Scope
- Building take-down of the former cancer center
- Building separation from an active hospital building
- Removal and disposal of two 4-foot-thick concrete radiation vaults
- Abatement of asbestos flooring and mastic, and weatherproofing on foundations and behind the brick facade
Approach
The separation line was cut and protected before structural demolition began, keeping the adjacent hospital building weather-tight and in service. The radiation vaults were broken down with hydraulic breakers and hauled as heavy concrete debris.
